The trailer is now available for Jersey Girl, Kevin Smith's new movie, and I have two points to make.
1. After viewing the trailer in its entirity, you see Jennifer Lopez for about half a second and her name is only mentioned in the credits at the very end. It seems fairly clear that the folks at Mirimax never want to hear the words "Gigli" and "Jersey Girl" in the same sentence, paragraph or article. The strategy makes perfect sense, but it is still amusing.
2. The movie looks like sappy bullcrap. Kevin Smith: If I had known that any other work you would release after the "Clerks and so on" movies was going to be completely soulless, I would have asked you to quit while your films were still amusing. I pray you are getting paid a boatload of money and are using it to bankroll your next amazing idea. Please let it be true.

Don't judge the whole movie by one trailer. I've had the priviledge of seeing about ten minutes worth of clips from the movie, and it's incredible stuff. It's definitely a new direction for Kevin, but it's an amazing one. Everyone who has seen this movie says it's Kevin's best yet and most well written. Kevin was actually a little bummed that the trailer kind of made it look like a "chick flick." Lppez doesn't deserve top billing because she's only in the flick for 15 minutes.

Not a Smith junkie, but I admire what he TRIED to do with Dogma, and Chasing Amy was pretty spectacular. I wouldn't call either soulless, nor a piece of crap.
Jay and Silent Bob, though? Maybe. But twas Mallrats-ish, and that's also his style. Not my faves, but I won't fault him on either effort.
In short, I won't give up, yet.
And seeing Gigli in Brooklyn opening weekend ranks up with watching Crossroads in England and my first viewing of Plan 9 From Outer Space on my hilarious movie experience meter...
