Argh?

Posted October 31, 2001

Argh? So last night I felt like an ass because I was supposed to be finishing up a paper revision for class but didn’t. It wasn’t too bad though because I had all afternoon. I get to the library and bust through it. I finish it with enough time to make it to class 5 minutes late. On the way to class these thoughts pop in my head:

  1. Crap, I didn’t change my introduction.
  2. Maybe I’ll just ask him for a small extension. Yeah, he’ll have some pitty.
  3. Nah, I’ll just turn it in, he’ll notice but it’s just one small thing.
  4. Oh damn, and that other paragraph. I didn’t finish it.
  5. OK, I’ll ask for a small extension, yeah.
  6. Did I number the pages? Crap.

I walk into class and as I sit down I remember #7:

  1. Wait, this is due Friday at noon. Ugh.

How am I supposed to feel? Elated? Frustrated? Stupid? Probably a little of each. I think this bothers me more than having to turn it in late/unfinished. That is sucky but something that makes sense. This just makes me feel like an ass. Still, I have 1.5 more days to finish it now and this should teach me a lesson because I will see how nice it is to have things finished early, right? Next time I’ll try to procrastinate on time and save myself some confusion.

Today: 6/10

Posted October 30, 2001

Today: 6/10 I don’t know why, but today was just pretty bleh. It could have ended up a lot worse if it weren’t for the last couple hours. I had a meeting that went better than expected and now I am just sitting in front of my computer doing what I do best, surfing. This weekend I have another family wedding. It’s for my Uncle Stan. I’m a little excited, but I wish I had the weekend to stay here. Oh well, he’s happy so I’m happy, right? Right.

One thing before I go: Design Defense Ministry. I don’t know what they are trying to accomplish but they have some really cool posters and a great intro. Worth checking out.

Links can be entertaining.

Posted October 29, 2001

Links can be entertaining. To prove this point, I provide you with two links that I think will keep you entertained:

  1. Loop Labs. This site allows you to create mixes with about 100 different loops they offer. It was built for a contest set up by Macromedia and Sonic Foundry, although I’m not sure if they won. This one stands out from similar sites. I think the coolest thing is that you can record what you’ve done. It is very impressive and kept me entertained for about 30 minutes.

  2. Angola Prison Rodeo. This is a different kind of entertainment. This rodeo is held at Angola Prison in Louisiana and involves only inmates. My friend Dan, who goes to school in Tulane and witnessed this, informed me about it. Here are my two favorite events.

Convict Poker It’s the ultimate poker game, and even winning has a price. Four inmate cowboys sit at a table in the middle of the arena playing a friendly game of poker. Suddenly, a wild bull is released with the sole purpose of unseating the poker players. The last man remaining seated is the winner.
Guts & Glory A chit (poker chip) is tied to the meanest, toughest Brahma bull available. The object here is to get close enough to the bull in order to snatch the chit.
According to Dan the chit was worth $500 this time and a man was thrown 20 feet in the air and landed on his head. Youch. The next rodeo is April 20th. Road trip anyone?

I am starting to love Sundays again.

Posted October 29, 2001

I am starting to love Sundays again. The Bears are 5-1. The Bears have the second best record in the league. The Bears are for real. The Bears. The Bears. The Bears.

You can see where my mind is.

So last night was a ton of fun. My sister was in town without the ‘rents for the first time. I showed her the ropes of Madison on Halloween. Her word of the night: “Nuts.” I’ll have pictures to prove it very soon. My Max Fischer (a la Rushmore) costume went over well, but I don’t think it got enough exposure. So, I am going to be wearing it on Wednesday day, actually Halloween, as well. Hopefully I’ll turn some heads. We’ll see. Last night there were a lot of Ghostbusters and an unfortunate amount of people in gas masks, army gear and firefighter wear. I don’t really know if this was unfortunate but I’m concerned about some of their motives. I’m glad to hear that there weren’t any really horrible things happening, but it’s also not the real Halloween yet. I’m a bit nervous. So my favorite costume of the night was a Christian extremist with a sign that says “Heathens will burn!” I nearly cried it was so funny. Alright, time to watch Sportscenter again.

Why am I at home?

Posted October 28, 2001

Why am I at home? Oh yes, reloading for the rest of the night. The reason I'm posting is because I thought I would point you to my favorite little design bookshop. It's called Magma and is, unfortunately, only in London. Luckily, you can buy their books online. I won't lie to you though, shipping is expensive. Maybe I'll convince them to open up a store in Chicago. That would be amazing. That way it could be stocked with their books, shipping would be cheaper and life would be better. Maybe I'll just screw this whole web design thing and just open up a bookstore. I think that could really rule.

Oh, and I'm 50.9% emo,

Posted October 27, 2001

Oh, and I’m 50.9% emo, just like elizabeth. I’m surprisingly emo. Just call me surprisemo.

BOO!

Posted October 27, 2001

BOO! It’s that time of year. The nuttiest, most amusing, most out of control weekend in Madison. Halloween. They are expecting 100,000 people here and that makes me nervous/excited. Expect to see some pictures of this event some time early next week.

Alright Apple, you win.

Posted October 26, 2001

Alright Apple, you win. In the last few months I have become enamored with the G4 Powerbook. It is a beautiful machine inside and out. I am hoping to get one for graduation, but we’ll have to wait and see. Worst comes to worst it will be an entrance into a whole new world of debt. I thought this was going to be the end of my obsession. I would have my sleek, metalic laptop to show off and use all over the house, but no. That is not all I am afraid. Now there is iPod. It is their first forray into the world of personal electronics. It is an mp3 player. I have owned two before (and I won both of them, believe it or not), but this one has all the features that make me want to use one all of the time. It has a 5 gig hard drive and uses firewire connection. Translation: You can hold 1000 songs and download a whole CD in 5-10 seconds. No joke. This is why I will get an iPod. Unfortunately it only works with macs, which just means I can’t get one until I get my laptop. Hmm, maybe I’ll graduate in december. Can I still pull that off?

movies that time forgot.

Posted October 26, 2001

In the spirit of the Onion, movies that time forgot. Well, really just one movie that time forgot. Mr. Destiny. I don’t know about you, but I love this movie. I used to watch it all the time when I was younger. The movie is not amazingly done or really well written, it is just a Hollywood film done exceptionally well. They don’t lay on the sap too thick, so it is easy to make it through. If you haven’t seen this one yet, go rent it or look for it on HBO. It’s been on lately.

Microsoft is funny.

Posted October 25, 2001

Microsoft is funny. This morning I read an article from news.com about how Microsoft has been shutting non-IE browsers out of MSN.com. According to the article, it wouldn’t let in Netscape 4.7 for a while because it wouldn’t render properly. It also shut out the Opera browser. Netscape seems to work now but when I go in using Opera I get this message:

Attention: Web Browser Upgrade Required to View MSN.com If you are seeing this page, we have detected that the browser that you are using will not render MSN.com correctly. Additionally, you’ll see the most advanced functionality of MSN.com only with the latest version of Microsoft Internet Explorer or MSN Explorer. If you wish to visit MSN.com, please select the appropriate download link below.

It offered links to versions of Internet Explorer. Microsoft claims that the other browsers are not standard complaint. IE is mostly complaint, this is true, but there are other browsers that are even more complaint. Mozilla browsers are also shut out, which shocks me because it is supposed to be completely standard complaint.

It’s not hard to see what’s going on here. Microsoft is expanding their monopoly. Yes, browsers should be complaint, but when you have a site that is so widely accessed you should at least make viewable versions for all browsers. And then Windows XP is another story all together. I think I’ll stop there before I blow my top.

School spirit is evil.

Posted October 24, 2001

School spirit is evil. It is homecoming here at UW-Madison and I hadn’t noticed it, until just now. The pep squad, cheer group, or whatever they’re called, just came into the library in their little red sweaters shouting “LET’S GO RED!” over and over again. Okay, this is fine…on a crowded street or at a pep rally. This is not okay when I am at the library trying to write a paper. I guess this is my punishment for going to a Big Ten school.

The one upside to Homecoming: there will be many ridiculous alumni in ridiculous costumes here this weekend. Hopefully their won’t be any old dudes dressed as little bo peep or something. Gross.

I am a dufus, and other news.

Posted October 24, 2001

I am a dufus, and other news. I overslept this morning and I should have seen it coming. I stayed up past 4am doing work two nights in a row. It wouldn’t bother me if I hadn’t missed my most important class of the week. Hopefully I will be able to set things straight.

In other news, this weekend is going to be pretty intense. I think my sister is coming up for Halloween with a couple of friends. This would be her first time here without my mom and dad. We will have an awesome time. Speaking of Halloween, this year seems to be a little more subdued that last year at this point. There’s not as much of a group asthetic. Hopefully, as Saturday draws near, parties will begin to surface and the whole crew will be ready to get their party on.

Now I am going to finish my takehome exame for Constitutional Law. I am enjoying this, but it is still a time suck. After tonight I will be able to breathe a little easier and hopefully have some time to catch up on all the work I haven’t done in the last couple weeks. Hopefully that will also mean the end of “complain-o-blog.” I guess we’ll find out tomorrow.

I almost forgot.

Posted October 23, 2001

I almost forgot. This week has been deemed “no TV week” for me (except for 2 hours: 1 for Ed and 1 for an emergency situation). I have been watching way too much of the telly and it is time to take a break so I can do some work and let my brain do its thing again. I wouldn’t have stopped if I weren’t watching these crappy/awesome movies on TBS every weekend. It just sucks up my time. So, it’s break time. See ya next week Son in Law.

Fontline Battles.

Posted October 23, 2001

Fontline Battles. Okay, so I stole the headline from the article I’m about to reference, but who really cares. This weekend’s Chicago Reader has an article critiquing the relatively new design of the Chicago Tribune. I know, it doesn’t seem all that different. Well, it’s not, but she explains why and interviews a bunch of people who know stuff. The main reason is that the Tribune has a bunch of stuffy old men in the news room who didn’t want things to change too much. Granted, I wouldn’t want a massive overhaul but I would have liked a fresher-looking masthead. This one is classic, but needs to be modernized a bit.

Anyway, read the article and tell me what you think.

Blark.

Posted October 23, 2001

Blark. Right now, writing and I are not friends. We have stopped speaking and I don’t know if we’re gonig to get back together. Papers suck.

My new favorite videogame site.

Posted October 23, 2001

My new favorite videogame site. The crown goes to Nintendorks.com. They provide you with all of the pertinent news, not always first, but with a great sense of humor. If you want to know what's up with nintendo, this is the greatest/funnest place to go. Not for profit = doesn't suck (although that doesn't always hold true)

A funny little conversation maker.

Posted October 22, 2001

A funny little conversation maker. So I stumbled upon this site that has a chat emulator. It is set up so that when people randomly send IM requests to the screen name it talks back to them. Most people have no idea what’s going on. You should check it out. My favorites were numbers 48 and 58.

Network and Cable television confuses me.

Posted October 21, 2001

Network and Cable television confuses me. Today as I watched the many movies that were handed to me by TNT and USA, I noticed the inconsistencies of language. There was no problem using the words nigger or fag, and not in an educational manner, but you never hear the words pussy or dick or even clitoris. Why is it that racial slurs are more acceptable than sexual vulgarities? It definitely bothers me a lot more when someone uses the word nigger or kike than when someone says fuck or pussy. I think they should just let everything in. I understand the safe harbor laws, and that makes sense to me, but I think everything should be allowed after 10pm. Agreed?

Do you have any good links about this issue?

God bless the Chicago Bears.

Posted October 21, 2001

Today they mopped the floor with Cincinnati, 24-0, to go 4-0. It is a happy day for Bears fans everywhere. What is even more exciting is our rookie-licious day. Running back Anthony Thomas ran 188 yards on 22 carries and David Terrell caught 7 passes for 91 yards. Now I'm watching the Green Bay-Minnesota game and praying for a Minnesota win. If the Bears can keep a strong offense we have a shot at the Super Bowl, and I do believe that.

Football is fun again.

Opinions please.

Posted October 21, 2001

Opinions please. I am working on a design for the CALS Student Council and I wanted to get people’s opinions. Check it out and leave a comment about your thoughts or any browser problems. By the way, the only pages that are up are the main one and the constitution. Thanks.

Woe is me.

Posted October 20, 2001

Woe is me. For some reason I decided to start looking for web design jobs for when I graduate. I don’t know why. Anyway, I have realized how much it is going to suck looking for a job. I shouldn’t worry about this now though. Really, I shouldn’t. Should I?

One more thing.

Posted October 20, 2001

One more thing. Death Cab and the show last night made me excited about music again. I had been getting bored going to shows and listening to the same crap over and over again. I am through with my crap-thoughts. I am loving the music again.

Rock and Rolly.

Posted October 20, 2001

Rock and Rolly. I tried to post this last night, but my efforts were thwarted. Ah well. On to the post.

As I mentioned some time yesterday afternoon, last night was a night for Deathcab. Soup and I went down to Chicago for the show around 2:30 and it took us four freakin’ hours to get into the city. It was worthless and much longer than I ever would have guessed. When we did get there we proceeded to be rocked by The Prom, who is an indie rock Ben Folds Five combined with Elliot Smith. Awesome stuff and I just ordered it from insound. The middle band, Shiner, deserved two shiners for each band member. They were like Silverchair and Live combined with the suck turned way up. I almost fell asleep twice and nearly left after they finished. Fortunately, deathcab did not dissapoint. They played a bunch of hits and they were a lot of fun live. Those who say otherwise mispeak.

We capped off the night with a run to the Salt and Pepper Diner, where we reminisced about being in high school and enjoyed a french turkey sandwich. The ride home was also hot as we pushed the limits of my gas tank in the name of cookies.

No complaints, a fantabulous night.

Time to rock my socks off.

Posted October 19, 2001

Time to rock my socks off. I’m leaving for Chicago in about 30 minutes to see Death Cab For Cutie, whose new album is brilliant. BRILLIANT! You should really give it a listen. Really.

Now I am going to go shower. I will give you an update on the whole concert experience upon my return.

DVDs + me = love.

Posted October 19, 2001

DVDs + me = love. I especially love DVDs from the Criterion Collection. These guys know what they’re doing. I think I am going to have to go on a small Amazon DVD shopping spree this weekend as I got a surprise check from Capitol this week. Unexpected money = DVDs for me.

Some people just like to hear their own voice.

Posted October 18, 2001

Some people just like to hear their own voice. An article explains that an interest groups is trying to get Coca-Cola to discontinue their Harry Potter campaign. “Coke has transformed Harry Potter into a marketing wizard to hook our kids on its junk beverages.” Ha ha, a marketing wizard. Alright guys, this article bothers me for a couple reasons.

  1. Kids like rollercoasters. Often Coke has promotions that offer discounts on admission on their cans. Soda companies have been doing this for a while, Harry Potter is not a leader in this case.

  2. Coca-Cola spokeswoman Susan McDermott said Coca-Cola’s association with Harry Potter is about promoting the value of reading and the magic of Harry Potter — not promoting products to children. Yeah, sure lady. Really, we’re not trying to sell beverages. We didn’t pay XXX publishing company a few million dollars to sell something. Heck no! We are just trying to promote Harry Potter’s magic. In fact, starting tomorrow, Coke will cost $1 a can because we care.

  3. “Much as parents are involved in reading with their children and helping to make decisions about what they read, parents are also involved in deciding what their kids choose to eat or drink.” Who cares if Harry Potter is on a freakin’ can of Coke. Kids rot their teeth on candy and other crap too. And like you said lady, it is a parental choice; they can decide to just not buy Coke. Very simple.

  4. Kids like Harry Potter. Kids like sugar. Bringing them together will save them time so that they can sell lemonade for the relief efforts. This story made me cry, no joke. Kids are so much better than adults. Note to self: start breeding.

Everything is copasetic.

Posted October 18, 2001

Everything is copasetic. So I did indeed go to sleep after the last post with the intentions of getting up at 7am to finish everything. I got into bed and fell asleep to Wolf Blitzer. I vaguely remember waking up at 7, hitting my alarms, and going back to sleep. For some reason my body will shut everything else off if it just too damn tired. It did. My roommate woke me up at 9:50 and I had an hour and fifteen minutes to finish 6 pages. By an act of God, or some other incredibly powerful force, I was able to finish the paper and bring it to class before it ended. I wrote a page every 12.5 minutes. Wrong. Still, when I looked over the paper before printing it out it all made sense. So I will not question what happened, I will just accept its beauty and move on.

Now I can relax. I am going to the Great Dane for dinner tonight and tomorrow I will be going to Death Cab for Cutie in Chicago. All is right in the world. Err, maybe not. All is mostly right in my little world. Yeah.

I think I'm going to

Posted October 18, 2001

I think I’m going to go to sleep now and wake up at 7am to finish. I will have to skip my first class, but it has to be done. I am just too exhuasted to use my brain right now. Hopefully I’ll be able to finish the paper in time when I wake up. I guess we’ll find out. I’ll see you then.

I have a strong feeling.

Posted October 18, 2001

I have a strong feeling I am going to be up all night tonight. This is not good for me/my body. I will be posting periodically throughout the night as this will probably be the only way to keep myself awake while writing about Plato and his damned Republic. I wish I had taken this class as a freshman like the rest of the class. Then it would be done and I would’ve been writing this when I still was writing crap like this. Well, I’ll probably be posting again in an hour or so. Peas out.

Ha ha.

Posted October 18, 2001

Ha ha. James Norton has a brilliant review of a review. He reviews the review he is writing at that moment. It is called “This Review.” I think it is hillarious. Flak Mag is great reading.

Ten bucks I fall asleep

Posted October 18, 2001

Ten bucks I fall asleep in my chair while writing this paper. Anyone?

It's not fair.

Posted October 18, 2001

It's not fair. Kids should not be this cool. It's not fair to them and especially not to me. They are cooler than I am, easily.

Ugh. I hate me.

Posted October 18, 2001

Ugh. I hate me. I just can’t stay focused. I have 6.5 pages to write by 11am. Why do I do this? WHY?!?

From CNN.com:

Posted October 17, 2001

From CNN.com: In an interview with Asian editors, President Bush predicted “people are going to get tired of the war on terrorism,” but he promised to press on even if public support wavers “because I think it’s the right thing to do. That’s what I am supposed to do.”

Yeah. Isn’t this a democracy? Isn’t he the people’s representative in government? Oh man. If I didn’t have to write a paper, I would rant all night long.

What a good day.

Posted October 16, 2001

What a good day. It started out mega-poopie but it got a lot better. Today I turned in a paper and took an exam and both were fine. The reason things ruled was because I had an awesome discussion in ILS 400 about cultural evolution, biological evolution, and human sexuality. It was great. Then, on the way home, I picked up some pictures and there were two I really liked. I love getting good photos back. That was really all that made the day good. I guess it was just my disposition.

On another note, I am going to get a Titanium Powerbook when I graduate. I don’t care what any one else says, I’m getting one. It is so hot and on fire. I can’t wait. Until then, I will just have to wait and drool.

Last thing, the Gamecube website is 1,000,000x better than the Xbox site. Another reason why I will be avoiding the Xbox and getting the Gamecube ASAP. Mmmm, pixels.

Why am I up?

Posted October 16, 2001

Why am I up? Oh yes, I’m writing a paper I could have done days ago. I am so smrt.

Sorry Guys.

Posted October 16, 2001

Sorry Guys. Bad news for JP and Jannelle. According to this Wired article people are starting to replace their real phones with cell phones these days. They think this might be an end to land lines. Looks like you’ll be buyng a cell phone after all. He he.

Oh my.

Posted October 15, 2001

Oh my. In 2.5 hours I will be interviewing Jon Linell of They Might Be Giants. Dear God. I didn’t think this was going to work out and now it has. It kind of ruins my schedule for the day as I know have to write out a bunch of questions for him. Jeez. Time to get going on that one. I’ll let you know how it works out.

Photoshop Tennis.

Posted October 15, 2001

Photoshop Tennis. I have mentioned this before, but it is a ton of fun to look at. Essentially, two designers volley a photoshop image back and forth. It starts as one thing and then the other designer adds a layer. It goes on until the match is "called." There have been some really interesting things going on. It's a lot of fun.

We didn't win Kickball this season. We came in third, but Timmy V. got an honorable mention and special award. Well done. I will post pictures and video from the event some time this week.

And now, homework time. The homework thing hasn't gone quite as smoothly as I had hoped. It never does. Arhhhhhhhh.

It's one of those days.

Posted October 13, 2001

It’s one of those days. Today I will be sitting in the library, like I am now, until I finish doing everything that I need to do. I have a lot to do. So, it is going to suck. After this weekend I should be relatively caught up and ready to move on from that point. This would be the best possible scenario. So while I’m stuck here doing work, you should go browse the internet for me, ok? Thanks.

Silly websites.

Posted October 13, 2001

Silly websites. CNN.com had a poll asking “Is the US prepared for a biochemical attack?” I think the answer is an obvious and resounding no. By posting that poll it is more to remind us that we should be scared and worry about this. Maybe that was their intention, but it seems we’re doing enough worrying on our own and don’t need CNN to remind us to worry. Just give us the news guys.

Argh. I'm getting really annoyed

Posted October 12, 2001

Argh. I’m getting really annoyed with all this downtime on my server. I think I am going to switch to Dreamhost. They have great deas and stellar service.

On to something incredibly sad. Polaroid has gone out of business. It makes sense, but it is still a shock. I love polaroid photos and will never have much of a chance to take them again. I am going to go and buy a crapload of polaroid film today.

In rememberance, here is a polaroid photo essay I did a while ago.

One month anniversary.

Posted October 11, 2001

One month anniversary. I imagine most of you realized today is the one month anniversary of September 11th. Last night while I was watching Law and Order in bed a phrase stuck in my head.

“Law and Order will be right back.”

This sums up some of thoughts on what’s been happening this last month. Although we have been told that the war may take a while, it seems that it is assumed that we shouldn’t worry too much, things will back to normal just as soon as we can stamp out this terrorism thing. It just feels like most people have started to move back to their normal life. Maybe not. Either way, the phrase was interesting.

I overslept.

Posted October 11, 2001

I overslept. Blarg/refreshing.

SO Hillarious.

Posted October 10, 2001

SO Hillarious. Check out this photo and look at the poster being held up. If you look just to the left of Osama’s head on the poster, you’ll see a little picture of him with Bert, from Sesame Street. Check out some more examples of this on plastic.com. Oh, this is not fake. Just read the comments on Plastic. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Some new reading.

Posted October 10, 2001

Some new reading. I’m a bit behind on the “it” factor for these sites, but I still think they are rockin. Both of them are “filter” sites. They take suggestions of stories from people and post the article link, their comments and any comments that follow. A great idea.

Plastic.com - This site focuses mostly on current events. It has a very intuitive interface and has some great commentary on current events. The discussion about our war has been especially interesting.

Metafilter.com - The quintessential filter site. This one does not have quite as easy of an interface, but brings up some more interesting topics. It is a bit tech heavy, but definitely not limited to that. I’ve spent hours reading stories and people’s responses to them.

This little bit just inspired my column for emmie.

I've been lazy. Sorry.

Posted October 10, 2001

I’ve been lazy. Sorry. Yeah, so it’s been a busy/lazy week. Nothing too new to report except that I saw Mulholland Drive tonight. It was very good. It was Lost Highway with a different plot and different characters. I will be reviewing it for emmie, so you can read my full opinion there later this week. I’ll let ya know.

I’ve started posting to photographica.org. You should go and check out the photos I post and the ones other people post. It’s a good site.

That’s all fer now.

An awesome campaign.

Posted October 8, 2001

An awesome campaign. There is an anti-porn campaign on the web called Get Some Real, as in get some real ass. Basically they are making fake porn pages to clog up the search engines on the web with their fake porn. I don’t know how realistic this is, tecnically speaking, but it would be amazing if they could really affect dude’s ability to find/get porn. Also, their site is pretty cool too. Thanks for the tip Ukazu.

Good news. New site.

Posted October 6, 2001

Cursive is coming to Chicago and Milwaukee near the end of the month. I am DEFINITELY going to see them. You should also check out their website as they have a brand new one. It is pretty nice, I think.

Sorry for the lack of posts lately, I haven't really felt like posting.

This is the product of boredom.

Posted October 5, 2001

Below are some websites from students at my school I randomly stumbled upon, while being bored.

The Zamboni Man. This guy drives a zamboni. Fo'sheezy.
Captain Beyond. I have no idea what this band is but this guy likes them.
No clue. This is the only thing on the site. I pray it is from Halloween.
Weh. This is just another site because it reminds me of the web 4 years ago.

Really the first one is the only funny one. The others are just eh. I just got bored and I love finding crappy sites out there. It is amusing. Search for yourself.

Another 'ha ha.'

Posted October 3, 2001

Another 'ha ha.' So you know how earlier I had 3 "Chop Suey!" searches? As of now, 3 hours later, I have 10 searches. Poor guys and gals.

I am so excited.

Posted October 3, 2001

I am so excited. The Royal Tenenbaums premiered at the New York Film Festival this weekend to wonderful reviews. It was considered the hottest ticket and "exceeded expectations." Ooh, December 21st is a long way away.

Here's a link to the article I got the info from.

TV Viewing

Posted October 3, 2001

I have a bad feeling. I think my post about System of a Down just made it to the search engines. These are the searches for my page, all from today.

Google: lyrics chop suey "wake up" "a little makeup"
Google: "when angels deserve to die" lyrics
Google: "SYSTEM OF A DOWN"+"CHOP SUEY"+"WAkE UP"
Yahoo: luttenbachers

The last one rules, but the first three worry me. This is like when I mentioned American Pie 2 (just like I did now) and I got about 15 search hits concerning downloading it. It is just plain wrong I think. So if you are here for System of a Down lyrics, please be careful. The posting of the lyrics was partly in jest and I worry for you and your desire to know what that man is saying. We all know that these lyrics are utter crap, it is all about the face he makes in the video.

Nelly is funny/gullible.

Nelly is funny/gullible. This is a direct quote from the nellstar herself:

"Wait, when people pull your finger does it actually make you fart?" Yes Jannelle, it does. (chortle)

It was bound to happen.

It was bound to happen. I finally started teaching myself CSS yesterday. I never tried before because it seemed somewhat daunting, but now I feel like an ass. I spent about 3 hours working out some of the kinks before I had a pretty good handle on the basics. I'm not using it as completely as some people, but that's because I want to make it readable in all browsers and Netscape 4.x and lower doesn't fully support CSS. Once they phase out that version it will be all gravy. I can't wait too, because CSS rules so far. Yeah.

Headlines often rule.

Headlines often rule. More sex, less sleep: U.S. attack reactions vary, from CNN.com.

Crank Calls. That sounds way

Posted October 2, 2001

Crank Calls. That sounds way better than Prank Calls. Either way, a certain somebody has been calling me this evening about my refigerator and seeing if I have Prince Albert in some kind of container. I'm even getting IM pranks. Crazy.

Right now I'm working on the website for CALS student Council. I finally came up with something I can live with and I'm sure they can live with. It took me a while, but I got it. Feels good. Well, gotta go, I'm on the company dime right now.

Clarification. Just to let you

Posted October 2, 2001

Clarification. Just to let you know, I will be a part of moustache month but will be forced to take a break in the middle of the month. I think of this as an advantage. It gives me a chance to try out dos moustaches. I am sorry for the confusion. I will definitely have a moustache.

The man is watching.

Posted October 2, 2001

Just out of curiousity, who is looking at my site from a government domain? I see you watching me! All I know is that you are from the US Geological Survey. If you are this mystery person please let me know. Thanks.

Gross.

Posted October 2, 2001

Someone got to my page at 7:24am by searching for "hot gay homepages." It is not gross that I come up as "hot" and "gay," but that this person did it at 7:30 in the morning. Come on, can't you at least wait until after work? Sheesh.

Moustache v. Mustache.

I side with Moustache, sorry West Wash. Keepin it real JP.

Oh Judaism.

As I was checking out exactly what Sukkot is all about, since I didn't really know for sure, I thought I'd look at Purim as well. Below is an excerpt concerning our actions on Purim.

We are also commanded to eat, drink and be merry. According to the Talmud, a person is required to drink until he cannot tell the difference between "cursed be Haman" and "blessed be Mordecai," though opinions differ as to exactly how drunk that is.

I think that is hillarious.

I'm gonna be a star.

Once again, I am acting in a Comm Arts 355 project. This time around it is a double edged sword.

Pro: It will be a lot of fun and I get to spend time with my friend Rebecca. I also get to show off my amazing features to the world (her class).

Con: It is interfering with Mustache Month. I had to shave today and I will have to again in two weekends. I guess you've got to pay the price for stardom.

Now it's off to the library as I have to do some serious studying.

Let me see your finger.

Posted October 1, 2001

Let me see your finger. According to WIRED News, we will be swiping our fingers instead of plastic in the not-so-distant future. I think this is a great idea. I don't have to carry anything with me and I don't ever have to worry about a broken/stolen card or no working ATM. This is my kind of technology.

I'm getting old.

"Obviously." Well yes, it is inevitable, but I had another reminder today. I clicked on an ad link today to help support a site I like. The link was to online mad libs. These didn't even mildly amuse me when I read people's completed ones. I didn't even think, "oh that is dumb but makes me smile." Nope, nothing. But I did distinctly remember being about 12 and thinking mad libs were the funniest thing on earth. I would go through one of those flip books in about an hour with a few friends. Those were the days.
